Unit Summary
You will summarize, as simply as possible, the why of your unit.
Competencies
Here you will list the organizations from where you will be drawing tour competencies and standards. Regardless of the school or corporation, there will be a body that governs and recognizes who you will be working with. The competencies or standards reflect the goals or purposes of the unit. It is important to take the competency code directly from the organization and be sure to use that code throughout the template
Key to completing the template Is CONSISTENCY.
Transfer
Transfer goals reflect opportunities in the future for the learner to independently use of knowledge and skills gained by the learner outside of the classroom or learning space. You will take the competency codes and place them in the right column depending on which transfer goal they relate to.
Meaning
In this section, you will find your essential questions and understandings. Essential questions are those that will foster independent critical thinking for the learner which in turn promote future transfer. A way to think when completing this section is, “What do I want my students to learn”. The understandings are statements that will complete the phrase, “Students will understand”. This is different from explicit knowledge and can be statements that could possibly answer essential questions. Essential questions and understandings should also relate back to the competency codes and be noted in the right column. Acquisition Here you will list the explicit knowledge and skills learners will take from the unit. Knowledge goals are clear facts, definition and other information you are aiming for the students to be able to recall and ultimately recite to you in their own words. Skills are the talents or understanding of processes acquired from the unit that call for recall of the knowledge. Both knowledge and skills will correlate back to the competency codes and go in the right column. |
