Start HEreWelcome to this online workshop on the Understanding by Design philosophy designed by Grant Wiggins and Jay McTighe. The philosphy uses the idea of backwards design to develop more effective lessons and improve students learning. First thing you will need to do is grab the books The Understanding by Design Guide to Creating High-Quality Units and The Understanding by Design Guide to Advanced
Concepts in Creating and Reviewing Units (left and right respectively) by Grant Wiggins and Jay McTighe. Check your local and/or University Library, but the book can also be purchased via Amazon, Barnes and Noble or Google Books. |

Overview
The Understanding by Design process is one that uses the method of instructors when designing lesson. The focus of the UbD process is one of understanding where the focus of the learner is not simply recalling information but improving their ability to recall and use information when most appropriate both in and out of the classroom. This workshop will serve as a guide to breaking down and completing the three stages of the UbD Template:

Instructor Information
Ishmael McKinney is a Graduate of Wright State University with a Bachelors in Organizational Leadership. He is currently pursuing a Master's Degree in Educational Technology in Instructional Design for Digital Learning. Ishmael has a Paraprofessional and Teaching Intervention background and hopes to take the skills acquired in the Master's program in order to develop programs that allow students of low socioeconomic status access to higher education. |
